Those who stick to their standard of service will do well. I expect a certain amount of service from people, and I believe that they have the right to expect the same for me. Great comments, I guess you could call my standard my "commandments".

Great post. What fascinates me are the brokerages who tout "integrity," "honesty" and "trustworthiness" as if this is something special or unique to their company. Really??? Shouldn't those core values be assumed for EACH AND EVERY REALTOR/BROKER who has a license?? If you don't automatically live and work according to integrity, honesty and trustworthiness, the general public should NOT be entrusting you with their biggest financial investment!! These are not special core values, they are the bare minimum of what we offer as an industry to the consumer. Katie Minkus, R(B) Broker-in-Charge. Hawaii Life Real Estate Services, LLC.
Wow, great topic and I LOVE the analogy. Now that is one I can relate to. How many organizations revisit their mission statement and core value statement and measure all actions against it. Good reminder.

Loving this post. It's a great way to ensure that organizations put into action those values they put forth in mission statements or talk about when hiring people that don't seem to carry over into practice or throughout the entire organization.

Amen. Going into 2010 is a THE time to get this right. As a side note, I was attending a little marketing fest this weekend and this subject came up.

One of the sharp points shared, how easy it is and how common it is to say what you "stand for and believe" in.

In fact, most missions statements sound the same (as a result nobody really believes them), honest, ethical, blah, blah. The point was, to think about and articulate not so much what you stand for (which is what everyone does) but, what you stand against and what you wouldn't do, where you draw the line, who you choose to lose, etc.

I thought that idea made sense and was another angle of approach that might help uncover and discover your "core values" and provide a method for articulating "core values" in a surprising way.

Thanks.

Great post, and timely. The core value identity-crises is impacting the entire industry. I just posted about this very thing last night... the dilution of the 'big-brand' promises, and the power of standing on our core values.
