As I sit here in Chamonix, Fr – having stopped into visit property shoppes after work – I wonder if real estate in America has become too complicated.

Here each property shoppe represents a select group of listings on an exclusive basis. Consumers shop for homes like they would a car – they visit each store, review the offerings and pick a home. BMW does not sell Merceedes – etc. Not that we could ever go back – but somehow the business model fits here. Even in Paris – there were property shoppes in each neighborhood area.

It reminded me of a stanza of a poem I learned in grammar school – "it could not be called ungentle, but how thoroughly departmental."

Anyone know the poet or poem?
