Someone I admire memed me. I was reluctant. But she urged me to participate. I figure if someone of her caliber can do it, then I can too.
1. Who is your favorite musical artist?
So many have influenced my life and my style. Peter Paul and Mary. Phil Ochs. Hendrix. Beatles. Tom Waits. Lyle Lovitt — the list is extensive. But above them all, one man stands out as someone who embodies many of all my favorite artist’s attributes. He is Jerry Garcia. I saw the Grateful Dead perform hundreds of times from 1971 up until the very last tour. I have had the pleasure of meeting the band many times and was honored to perform with Phil Lesh once several years ago. My life definitely has a soundtrack and it’s clearly Jerry and his music.
2. Who is your favorite artist?
Keith Haring. His chalk drawings scattered across walls throughout NYC are as much a part of my history as the smell of freshly cooked bagels on a Sunday morning.
3. Who is your favorite blogger?
I do not have a favorite. Everyone I read brings their own special brand of insight to my reader.
4. If you could meet anyone, who would it be and what is the most interesting thing about them?
I would want to meet the future, 80-year old me. The interesting thing about him would be the insight he would have and the wisdom he could share with the present me, who at times could use a little more wisdom and guidance.
5. What did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to pitch for the Yankees. That was a dream shattered at 15 when I was scouted after a 12-0 winning season in the NYC little league. When the scout met my dad who was 5"2 and mom who was 5’0, certain realities became clear. So I focused on competitive yo-yo.
6. What is the most interesting piece of trivia you know?
William Goldman often cuts some of his best lines out of his screenplays because they just didn’t work in the scene. That’s cool.
7. If you could live in any time in history, when would it be and why?
I’d want to be living in Liverpool on November 9th, 1961. Then I could have entered the Cavern Club one hour earlier than Brian Epstein.
8. What is the most interesting job you have ever had?
Being a father. I know it seems corny but it’s the most challenging, interesting, stressful, rewarding, tireless, job with a range of benefits unmatched by any type of occupation or profession I can think of. Besides, I haven’t had all that many jobs – I have been in my own business since the early 80′s for the most part. I loved them all but searching my soul on this, all pale to fatherhood.

You played with Phil Lesh? You're even cooler than I thought!
I picked fatherhood too…
Thanks for sharing this Marc, it was great.
Yup. 2 years ago Thanksgiving. We did a two hour set. Was a bit intimidating stepping into Jerry's shoes.
Not much else makes me happier than a fit Garcia and a happy looking Brent getting down to business. Garcia affects my life every day and I am still brought to tears or at the very least goose bumps on a regular basis by listening to the acquired taste that is Jerry Garcia / Grateful Dead….. While it will never pain me to explain to visitors who the old guy with a beard is in the pictures that surround my home, I cannot wait until the day that I get to see all the boys again in all their glory with all my loved ones, present and past.
Isn't it funny how even today… all the "Heads" still flock together? I have to admit I was always a Bobby fan though.
Now the big question to answer Mr. Davison, is "With or without Donna on backups?"

The "with Donna" years though marred by her voice, offered up some great shows nevertheless.

Hi Marc!
I'm glad Sherry meme'd you. I see we share a few things in common – Keith Haring, the Yankees and being a father…..good stuff.

I'm glad too Rudy. She is a considerable influence. Thanks.
I like the part where you get to the Cavern Club just before Epstein. You are a clever wit.
Thanks for sharing.
ahhhhhh. thanks for the video. i have now had at least 9:49 sane minutes in my day here at work.
Hi Marc,
Loved your meme post – it just confirmed what I already know, and that is… I am honored to know you, work with you, and be your friend.
Sherry
The feeling is indeed mutual Sherry.
Marc,
I had no idea you were a 'Head. I saw 50 shows. Love to reminisce – See you at Inman!
I probably saw 50 by 1976.
Over time, a few of the guys became friends.
Those were very special times that ended to soon.
