A map of Real Estate’s Web 2.0 universe

We
thought it would be useful to
list and categorize all the Web 2.0 companies and applications in real
estate. Something that would serve as a map or crib sheet for our
clients and
readers.

This is what we have so far.

Please note a few things about how we put this together:

  • We only included companies focused exclusively on real estate (e.g., Trulia) or larger companies that actively play in
the category (e.g., Google). Going beyond that is another project entirely.
  • We
included only companies focused on the U.S. housing market. There are
plenty of great property sites in Europe, but, again, we wanted to
present something that lists the most relevant companies, not the
    most.
  • It
is possible, even likely, that we left some companies out. Comment here or give us a
    shout
if you have additions. This is going to be a dynamic page.
Along these same lines, let us know if you think we’ve placed a
company in the wrong category. There were lots of judgment calls here and these placements make sense to us. But we’re not
    always right.
  • Our "blog" category is the most subjective. We only wanted
to include blogs that covered web 2.0 and online real estate regularly.
    And those
that are, in our opinion, the best.

Enjoy!

Marc, I must say I was surprised that you didn't mention us as a Social Network in your latest list. But upon second thought, that list could get pretty long! Thanks for the great aggregation of quality links! Even if you missed a good one here: LOL, Dan Auito @ http://WWW.MAGICBULLETS.COM

    Hello,

Can you possibly add us to your 'Marketing tools/platforms' section?

Our real estate video podcasting service at http://www.agentcasts.com is gaining steam, and we'd love to be 'on your map' of services for a number of reasons.

    Thanks in advance!

Great cloud. A nice visual way to introduce these categories to my associates who have heard of maybe 5% of these companies.

This is a work in progress. Just like the Universe. There are many undiscovered bodies out there. If you are one, just ping us and we'll review. The purpose of this is to just chart what's out there.

    Thanks everyone.

    Hey Marc and Brian,
Thanks for including us, through SpotIt on your list!

We've been having great success raising awareness about how to add user-content that actually forwards a company's business goals through this product. And, interestingly, we're having great response from outside the Real Estate world as well.

Looks like you've got a great start on mapping the 2.0 playing field here.

    Best,
    Pete

Wow. Look at this Map. If this is Web 2.0 and the future of real estate- as Capt Brian Wilson so intelligently pointed out- Where are the Real Estate Companies on this map?

OnBoard maintains a huge inventory of information on a local level that provides a nice balance of much needed market data, and a Web 2.0 platform that will make Real estate companies more Web 2.0 compliant.

  11. Awesome! is this in a PDF? I want to hand it out to ppl attending a Web2.0 seminar for real estate in Phx? Pls dress it up so they obligingly come back here to visit you.

  12. Mike Blaney says:

What a great way to benchmark the industry. It will be interesting to see what the 2.0 landscape looks like a year from now.

  13. Well done, great idea, and excellent inclusions! This definitive reference already seems to have taken the real estate blogosphere by storm.

  14. Brian Wilson says:

Nicely done. What stands out to me is how the real estate industry online is so fragmented into various compartments. I foresee a return to "portalizing" real estate in the very near future.

  15. Interesting… you must be a student of "mind mapping". Its amazing how many people have great ideas about how to better conduct the business of real estate. I hope they all succeed!

  16. Chuck Teller says:

Nice map. We're honored to be on the list.

  17. Thanks! It's an outstanding list.

  18. Marc Davison says:

Check for updates. We'll change the date on the upper left hand corner with each update.

    Enjoy!

I have one for you to add to the social/community section. I've been using it for the past few weeks and I really like it. I think it's different from the ones you already have on there b/c it's for anyone involved in real estate, not just real estate professionals. I'm a hopeful real estate investor, and it seems like all those other sites really only cater to people who have their professions as agents and things like that. So please add it if you don't mind for other "non-professional" real estate people like me! Thank you!

By the way, thank you SO much for creating this map…I'm kind of new to real estate, and this is going to help me out A LOT!

  20. This is one of the most amazing map websites I've ever seen. Who designed this?

  21. http://www.mapjack.com – This is one of the most amazing map websites I've ever seen.

  22. Why is there so much fuss on web 2.0 things, i suspect they might even brst as its eariler version

  23. Dan says:

I recommend rentbits.com and rentmarketer.com. Two of the fastest growing applications in the rental market.
